The bibliographic file of Non-Native Aquatic Species in the Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic Regions includes references to publications dealing with such species that occur in the states of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. Most references relate to coastal and marine species, but the file also includes references to inland species, particular aquatic species, as well as papers dealing with impacted habitats, issues associated with the invasions by non-native species, the biology of non-nantive species, and related topics. The file also includes references to related topics, such as those dealing with the theory of invasive species, information about such species from other geographic regions, and assessing the risks to ecosystems posed by such species.

The file has been compiled from numerous sources and a goal is to make this searchable file as comprehensive as possible, so that future work on non-indigenous species can be facilitated. The file has a simple data structure containing the following attributes:

author - author or authors stored as a variable length string of 150 bytes.
year - year of publication stored as a variable length string of 4 bytes.
title - tile of article or book stored as a variable length string of 255 bytes.
citation - citation of journal or book stored as a variable length string of 65536 bytes.

Should users know of publications that are not included, they are strongly encouraged to submit these papers for inclusion into the bibliography. This may be done using the WWW submission form option associated with the bibliography or by sending either a copy of the reference or of the publication to the address given below.

Submissions will be compiled, confirmed for suitability, edited if necessary, keywords provided, and the file periodically updated. If parties interested in establishing a common source for bibliographic information on endangered species in the Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic Regions contribute to improve and extend the existing file, this resource will become an increasingly useful and important source of information for all users.
